Coffeetown Press publishes nonfiction–including memoir–literary and historical fiction and some academic books. Please submit electronic manuscripts–PDFs or Word Docs–Aubrey Anderson: email@example.com.
We are not currently looking for short stories or poetry unless you have an established platform.
We rarely publish manuscripts over 100,000 words. If your manuscript is over 100,000 and can easily be published in two volumes, let us know.
Most of our memoirs concern growing up in other cultures (Between the Two Rivers/Sirocco) or have a strong theme that will appeal to a specific audience (One Gay American).
We only consider literary fiction with a strong story and a distinctive voice. It also helps if the author has a developed author platform.
We do not consider new books that have already been published in any format, including eBook only. We do welcome reprints from established authors of titles that are currently out of print, unless they are already available in any eBook formats. Please have proof ready that the rights have reverted to you.
Subject line should read as follows: CP QUERY: Genre, Title, Author. Example: CP QUERY: Memoir, MY LIFE WITH TOADS, by Jeremy Fisher.
For nonfiction and academic submissions, please include the following as separate attachments: (1) first 50 pages of the work, (2) a mission statement for the overall concept of the work, (3) a bio, (4) marketing overview, including competitive titles of your topic, and promotional plans. Please do not include any of this information in the body of the email, because it will become lost in the torrents of email we receive each day. Please be sure to include your full name, mailing address, and email address on the title page of each submission and attachment. To avoid confusion, each attachment MUST include the title of your manuscript. For example: TOADSFIELDGUIDE-sample50; TOADSFIELDGUIDE-mission; TOADSFIELDGUIDE-bio; TOADSFIELDGUIDE-promo.
For fiction and literary memoir, include as separate attachments: (1) the first 50 pages of the work, (2) complete synopsis, including the ending, and (3) your bio and promotional plans. Please be sure to include your full name, mailing address, and email address on the title page of each submission and attachment. To avoid confusion, each attachment MUST include the title of your manuscript. For example: LIFEWITHTOADS-synopsis; LIFEWITHTOADS-sample50; LIFEWITHTOADS-bio&promo.
Formatting: Manuscripts should be double-spaced and use 12-point Times New Roman font. No extra returns between paragraphs and dialog. Please also include headers, page numbers and a title page with complete contact information and genre category. We do not accept synopses or excerpts that are pasted into the body of the email.
If you are able to sum up the message of your manuscript in three sentences or less, by all means give us that summary in your email.
Unagented and agent submissions are welcome. We accept multiple submissions, but authors should inform us immediately if a manuscript is no longer available.
If we are interested in reading more, you will hear from us in three months or less. We need up to six months to review complete manuscripts. Please let us know if you sign a contract with another publisher during that period. If you have not heard from us after six months, you may send a followup email.
Queries about genre fiction should be addressed to Camel Press, but at the same email: firstname.lastname@example.org. Please review those guidelines before submitting to Camel.
Thank you for your cooperation. By following our guidelines, you help us review and respond to queries more efficiently so that you will not be kept waiting.
